We have rolled out one of our most requested features: larger product thumbnail images on catalog pages!
Product thumbnails will now be displayed at sizes up to a maximum of 640×640 pixels. Existing images will be scaled up to the largest size possible. The exact size of your thumbnails will depend on the dimensions and aspect ratio of your product images, as well the catalog’s Columns setting. To adjust the size of your product thumbnails, you can upload new images via the Edit Product page, or adjust the number of columns via the Catalog Settings page. Catalog pages with fewer columns will display larger images.
Catalogs that are already using the Product Thumbnails layout have been updated automatically. To switch an existing catalog to the Product Thumbnails layout, edit the catalog, and select Catalog Settings from the menu on the left. On this page, under Layout Options, select Product Thumbnails, and click Save.
If you are seeing problems with your template or the products are extending outside of your template width, you can fix this by refreshing your template (Edit Site > Design > Edit Current Template > click the green Save button), or clearing your browser cache.
Here is an example of how the new Catalog thumbnails look. Previously, in a 4-column layout, your catalog might look like the image below. The numbers on the images show the true dimensions of each uploaded product image.
OLD THUMBNAILS – 4 COLUMNS
Now, here is the same 4-column catalog with the new, larger thumbnails:
NEW THUMBNAILS – 4 COLUMNS
You can increase the size of the thumbnails even further by reducing the number of columns. Here’s an example of the same catalog with just 2 columns instead of 4.
NEW THUMBNAILS – 2 COLUMNS
