Some of you have expressed surprise and concern over a drastic drop in email spam since we switched over to the new email solution.
The new system has much more effective spam filters to prevent you from getting hundreds or even thousands of unwanted emails clogging up your inbox. Here’s how the filters work:
Step 1
When an email is sent to you, the sender’s location (IP address) is checked against a list of locations known for sending spam email. If there is a match, the email will be rejected and the sender will be notified.
Step 2
If the email passes the first filter successfully, it is then sent to the second filter, where the content (features and text) of the email is scanned and assigned a score based on the likelihood of the content being spam. That score will then decide whether the email is legitimate or spam.
If you are concerned that you are missing legitimate email:
- Sign in to your email using webmail.
- Open your Spam folder and review the emails within.
- If you find a legitimate email, select it and click the ‘Not Spam’ button at the top. The program will then remember which email is legitimate.
If you have any other questions about the new email system, don’t hesitate to ask Support and in the meantime, enjoy your cleaner inboxes!
