In order to improve the browsing experience for your visitors, we are performing an opt-in beta test of improvments to our legacy website templates to improve mobile optimization. The update includes the following improvements:
- Removal of the “m” subdomain for mobile sites, which will improve SEO (search engine optimization)
- Unification of mobile and desktop templates (eg. no separate stripped-down template for mobile users)
- Inclusion of template elements (eg image headers) on mobile layouts
OPTING INTO THE BETA
If you would like to participate in the beta test and have the improvements applied to your website, please send your request to our support team. We will assist with enabling the improvements on your website.
If you are using an Enhanced template and wish to take advantage of this new feature, you will need to switch to a non-Enhanced template (Edit Site > Design > Choose a Template). Note that this will change the appearance of your website on both desktop and mobile devices.
Note that the Mobile Site feature (Edit Site > Design > Mobile Site) must be disabled in order for the updated template to work.
KNOWN ISSUES
There are handful of minor issues that may occur on your website as a result of this change. If you are experiencing issues with the new template, please read on for instructions on how to repair these issues.
LAYOUT / IMAGE ISSUES
Due to the change in template, some pages may appear misaligned or have images wider than the viewport of the mobile device. To fix this, the ‘img-flex’ class needs to be added to the image.
- Click the image in the Easy Editor and select Image Properties.
- In the Image Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
- In the Advanced tab, enter ‘img-flex’ (without quotes) in both the Stylesheet Classes and Style fields. If there are other values entered in these fields, replace them with img-flex.
- Click OK, and Save the page.
ISSUES WITH HEADER TEXT
Websites that utilize the “Add Text to Header” feature (Edit Site > Design > Edit Current Template > Edit Header > Add Text to Header) may notice misaligned header text in the new layout. We recommend removing text added via this tool and embedding it directly into the header image of your template.
